Lean In

When we think of Jesus being tempted, the only event that comes to mind is his forty days in the desert.

I’m only guessing here, but it seems to me that the biggest temptation Christ must have faced would have been the night before he was crucified. In the face of what God was asking him to do, Jesus was under so much strain that the capillaries in his skin burst resulting in bloody sweat.

Jesus had two choices that night on the Mount of Olives. He could either abandon what God was asking him to do, or he could embrace it. His decision didn’t come quickly. He spent most of the night in prayer. At one point he even asked God if there was some other path that could be taken to avoid the gruesome death he was going to experience.

We have salvation today because in the face of terror Jesus did the unthinkable. Jesus didn’t do what we would have done. Jesus didn’t call down a legion of angels to rescue him. Jesus didn’t turn away from the calling God had on his life.

In the moment of Jesus’ greatest challenge. In the moment of Jesus’ greatest temptation, He leaned into God. Men, this is what Jesus is calling us to do in the face of our greatest challenges.

In our darkest hours, we are to lean into God.

When all seems lost, we are to lean into God.

When things are not turning out the way we want them to, we are to lean into God.

When we pray and pray and pray, and God doesn’t seem to even be listening, we are to lean into God.

We don’t lean in because we know the outcome. We don’t lean in because it’s easy. We don’t lean in because our friends tell us to. We don’t lean in because it will make us feel spiritual. We lean in because Jesus refused to let us die in our sins. We lean in because that’s exactly what Jesus did when he didn’t have to.

Training: Word association

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.

Are you walking in God’s plans for your life or your plans for your life? One of the ways we make God laugh is by telling him our plans.

Here are some words associated with doing our plans: -PAIN, -WORRY, -FEAR, DISAPPOINTMENT, -DESPAIR.

Here are some words associated with doing God’s plans for our life: -JOY, -PEACE, -EXCITEMENT, ANTICIPATION, FULFILLMENT.

Friend if you want an unbelievable life seek God’s plan for your life and do it!

Be blessed

Training: God at work

Psalm 125:2

The Lord surrounds his people both now and forever more

Have you ever been looking for something and you didn’t realize it was right in front of you?

In Missouri often times we say, “If it was a snake it would have bit ya.” Well many times when we go through trials, if we start to experience pain, we assume God isn’t with us. However, God doesn’t promise to remove the pain of difficult trials, but he does promise to be with us and help us through those trials. So, if your struggling today, I have a sneaky feeling that if you look hard enough you might find God is at work in your life, even in the trials!

Be blessed

Training: The Power

Barry Young —  April 8, 2013

Pslam 124:8

“Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth”

I have plugged my laptop into an outlet wanting and waiting for it to get recharged yet nothing happened. What was the problem? I was plugged into a powerless power source.

Friend that happens to us all the time. When trials come we talk to “friends” or turn to “books” but things just seem powerless. I am not saying “friends” and “books” are bad. What I am saying is “friends” and “books” aren’t perfect. God is the ultimate power source, and when we turn to him he has the power we need to get through what we are going through.

Be blessed!

Training: Kick fear out

Barry Young —  April 5, 2013

Ephesians 6:19

I will fearlessly make know the mystery of the gospel

Are your surviving or thriving in life?

God has called you to thrive in this life! Often times what keeps us from thriving however is fear. Fear of what others will think, fear of failing, or fear of the unknown. My brother Ron was successful at everything he did because he lived a fearless life.

Friend if you want an abundant life KICK FEAR OUT!

Be blessed

Training: The beginning

Barry Young —  April 3, 2013

Psalm 116:15

The Lord cares deeply when his loved ones die (NLT)

Wow! God can bring peace to what we consider the worst trial someone can go through…death.

Our minds can not comprehend how great heaven is. Jesus said in John 6:47, “I tell you the truth he who believes has ever lasting life.” When we put our belief or faith in Christ we are promised everlasting life.

Let me leave you with this thought: “For those whose faith is in Christ, death is not the end, death is the beginning!”

Be blessed

Psalm 91:11

He will give his angels charge over you

I promise you God has protected you from certain things in the past that you are completely unaware of.

I am thankful for God’s protection!!!

When we make bad choices, many times we are asking God to protect us from ourselves. Today, I want to ask you: “Are you making life giving choices or life taking choices?” You always know you are making a good choice when you can enjoy the choice tomorrow.

The worst choices are those we can only enjoy now.

Be blessed!

Training: Victory

Barry Young —  March 29, 2013

Psalm 108:13

With God we will gain the victory

I hate losing!

Being a Kansas City sports fan at times can be painful. However, in life there is a way we can make sure we win: by partnering with God. If you want to insure you get defeated try running your career, finances, family, or dreams without God. God won’t force us to do anything. And we don’t have to partner with God on anything. But if we want success, the key is to partner with God.

Friend, God wants you to have victory in life, but victory only comes with a real life partnership with God.

Be blessed

Training: Bring Unity

Barry Young —  March 27, 2013

John 17:21

That all of them may be one

This verse is taken from Jesus longest prayer and the subject of his prayer was the unity of Christians.

There is no way that everyone in a church, family, or even marriage can agree on everything. However, we can either be easily offended or we can be hard to offend. We can either be a porcupine person that people are nervous to be around, or we can be a life giving person that people are attracted too.

If you sow joy and grace with others you will reap it. Bring friendship and unity to those who are important to you.

Be blessed

Ephesians 6:18

Be alert and always keep on praying

Don’t stop!

Don’t stop praying for that miracle. Don’t stop praying for that marriage. Don’t stop praying for that financial break through. Don’t stop praying for that child/friend to come to Christ.

Friend right now the devil wants to try to get you to stop praying for that need or concern in your life. Don’t stop!!! You can only be defeated, as a son or daughter of God, if you stop praying.

Be blessed and be a prayer!
